Swenam College is one of the very few private institutions that offers a range of awards and scholarships to both domestic and international students. New students applying to any program at Swenam College can apply for entrance awards, scholarships, and grants.
Existing students at the college may also be eligible to apply for continuing student awards. Award recipients are expected to serve as representatives for Swenam College and take part in outreach and alumni engagement activities. All awards will be disbursed in the form of a tuition credit. Distance education: 100% hours of instruction, excluding work experience hours, if applicable, delivered remotely from a BC location.
You will be offered two study options:
- Full-time: the total duration of this program is 4 weeks.
- Part-time: the total duration of this program is 7 weeks.
General Admission Requirements
This program is suitable for diverse applicants from diverse educational backgrounds; however, applicants require a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Autism and Neurodiversity
The objective of the course is to equip participants with the knowledge and competencies to identify worrisome behaviors, comprehend the diagnostic procedure, develop a strategy for navigating early childhood stages, and effectively advocate for their child. The course encompasses the period from birth to six years old, encompassing both school planning and preparation.
Behavior Guidance
In this course, participants will gain a systematic framework for effectively managing the social and emotional development, as well as challenging behavior, in young children. The primary goal is to examine evidence-based practices that promote the social and emotional well-being of infants, toddlers, and pre-school/ school children in the occurrence of challenging behavior.
Social and Emotional Intelligence
Studying this course will allow participants to gain a deeper understanding of the social and emotional development of young children, equipping them with the knowledge to support children’s holistic growth.
Capstone Project
This is a culminating course, designed to synthesize and apply your learning in early childhood education assistant program in a real-world setting. This course offers you the opportunity to engage in a practical internship/work placement or conduct a detailed research study.
Upon completion of this program, you will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of social and emotional skills.
- Identify the crucial role social-emotional intelligence plays in understanding children's behavior.
- Explain different behavior management methods for children with autism spectrum disorder.
- Recognize potential underlying causes of challenging behaviors in young children.
- Implement targeted strategies to support children's social, emotional, and behavioral development.
- Apply evidence-based practices to foster positive social and emotional well-being in children.
- Describe the core competencies of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
- Design classroom experiences that promote self-efficacy, resilience, empathy, and autonomy in children.
- Utilize knowledge of child development theories to customize teaching methods for individual children.
- Create inclusive and nurturing learning environments that support children's social and emotional development comprehensively.
The Early Childhood Education Assistant (Behavioral Guidance Stream) Certificate is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to work effectively in the field of early childhood education. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on experience, students will develop an understanding of child development, educational psychology, curriculum planning, and classroom management techniques. The program is a distinguished credential that signifies a comprehensive understanding of fundamental principles and practices in the field of early childhood education. This certificate program equips individuals with the essential knowledge and skills required to effectively support and engage with young children during their crucial developmental years.
This program thoroughly investigates the crucial role that social and emotional intelligence play in the complex process of understanding, guiding, and positively influencing the behavior patterns exhibited by children in various contexts and circumstances. In addition, it explores the behavior management methods implemented for young children diagnosed with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder or autism spectrum disorder. Considering the high prevalence of these mental disorders, this field aims to equip participants with the expertise and skills necessary to identify concerning behaviors, recognize the diagnostic process, and devise a plan for navigating early childhood phases.
Graduates will be prepared to work in a variety of early childhood settings, including preschools, daycare centers, and early intervention programs.
