A major aim of Swenam College as an education provider is to prevent the skilled immigrants from circumstantial foundation for survival leading to pursuing entry-level jobs or pursue an occupation with no experience, which is addressed through our job-ready, industry-specific programs with well-defined PTIB approved curriculum containing all necessary elements for a student to thrive in their industry.
We also provide a competitive edge to our students graduating from the programs of the Employment Development Department by adding extra certifications to our core curriculum. With that addition, our graduates are ready with Canadian industry required skills and expertise with an edge in communication and general employability skills.
Most of our programs are under 52 weeks to prepare the skilled workforce ready to enter the industry within a year. The Labour Market Outlook analysis plays a vital role in planning the appropriate programs and contributing to filling of labor gaps existing in various industries across B.C thus serving the industry, community and new settlers.
As an education provider, we value and respect the prior credentials, experience and education of our students. However, to make those credentials fit and accepted in the Canadian workforce, the specific skill set is required. The task is taken over by this Department and is accomplished through providing training to newcomers through appropriate referrals, our strong presence in career events, networking and conferences.

The Employment Development and Training Centre at Swenam College spans a vast and expansive department that aims to provide dedicated services to all the students in terms of upskilling, providing education and training.
The department is focused on serving and designing programs that are particularly fit for newcomers and immigrants to smoothly transition to a Canadian Workforce. The ultimate outcome of the services of the department lies in working to improve the living standard and betterment of life of newcomers and settlers who have a skilled background in specific industry. As an institution striving best to serve newcomers with its programs and services, we delve deeper into the struggles encountered by a newcomer and devise the most practical, well-suited and outcome focused solutions as a training provider.

The core and a major role of the center lies in detailed research of labor market outlook to analyze the in-demand jobs and build industry-specific programs. We work under direct directions and supervision of Ministry of Education, B.C to receive the funding to provide industry-specific programs and training to newcomers, immigrants, women, people with special abilities.

The competent program proposals are expected to attract funding under various streams. The programs have been able to gather the unwavering support from prestigious non-profits such as MOSAIC, Open Door Group, IEC of BC, ISS of BC, Back in Motion Rehab and more.
The Department also holds strong connections with employers in specific fields which form a part of our committee for reviewing the program and recommend amendments if required which contributes to keep us at pace with current and particular requirements for industry. We are also the official members of Surrey Board of Trade and Noth Vancouver Chamber.
We are also partners with SEIT Corporation for specific services of our college. Every program offered under this department is coupled with various short-certifications relevant to the Canadian-industry and aiming at further improving the general awareness of participants. Our vast network, employer connections and support from non-profits community partners adds impeccable edge to our programs in terms of practicums support and providing practical learning opportunities to our graduates.
We strive to be strongly present on all the education-focused events and bring about meaningful modification in the systems through our knowledge and insights and research on all levels of Labour Market Outlook’s projections of employment and skills needed in the specific industries to strengthen the future of employment in British Columbia. We have ongoing construction Project Management Program, 1 cohort of which has graduated. The Department’s vision is to build more programs in STEM field to provide more engineers and researchers to the nation.
